CLG will wipe out vast tracts of land that will prevent us from doing our berry picking our medicines, that’s what you will be wiping out

Unist’ot’en Camp claim the project will wipe out vast tracts of land that will prevent us from doing our berry picking our medicines, that’s what you will be wiping out.

Coastal GasLink natural gas pipeline project will run approximately 670 km (416 miles) in length only a fraction of that is on land claimed by the Wet’suwet’en and once you subtract the portion approved by other Wet’suwet’en clans, the remaining fraction is even smaller. The area cleared will only be 60 feet wide, and the trench only just over 20 inches wide. Our estimate is about 100 km is on Wet’suwet’en claimed territory.

Most of the area already sees logging that does pretty much the same, it improves berry picking after a few years of recovery. The percentage of land claimed by clans makes this area extremely small by comparison, so to suggest wiping out berries and medicine is akin to saying they only grow on proposed pipelines.

Also not mentioned is any serious medicine is prescribed by licensed doctors and comes from licensed pharmaceutical outlets. To say they are dependent of herbal medicine is just another one of those 1% of the time truths. Yes some people use it for not serious issues, but when they are really sick they use the same doctors and hospitals everyone else does.
