Brenda Michell – Blockader Profile

Brenda Michell (Chief Geltiy) was arrested on February 10th, 2020 at the Unist’ot’en camp for refusing to obey the Supreme Court Injunction. The Unist’ot’en camp is at the 60-kilometre point along the Morice West Forest Service Road. They had a very simple choice to make, allow CGL its legal access and problem solved.

Instead they chose the path of confrontation and getting arrested for breaking the law now gets labelled  as violence against women, the only thing they won’t call violence is if they are permitted to break the law with complete impunity. They insult the lives of those women who have been battered and murdered, by suggesting their criminal actions are protected because of their nationality and because women were killed, however the facts show more than 90% of the cases solved show these women were killed by aboriginal men (people they knew) and had nothing to do with the work camps that both men and women work at, yet like wailing cats at night they keep screaming about the non existent man camps accusing them as the source of the killings and beatings of aboriginal women.

More than 1,000 women and men, many of them local and Indigenous are working in those camps to date not one incident can be attributed to the building of the pipeline. Violence to women is a serious issue, however using this tragedy to excuse more criminal behaviour is exacerbating the problem. Its sad how they use the victims to justify their criminal behaviour.

The $40-billion LNG project represents the largest single private sector investment in Canadian history.  “This project is bringing long-term economic benefits to our community – hotels, local industrial and supply stores, airlines and even local restaurants. This is making a real difference to local families and is important to the long-term sustainability of our community. The healthier our community is, the healthier the North is.”  Once complete, the project is estimated to contribute $20.88 million in annual property tax benefits that will support northern community services such as fire protection, policing, hospitals, schools and waste management.

The narrative would not sell very good if the facts were on the table so they sell themselves as victims of crimes they brought on themselves.
